Tour of Cardiff Bay with Keith Bayliss

Tour of Cardiff Bay Exhibitions with Keith Bayliss

4th October 2015

Neath Port Talbot, Swansea Students and Parents/ Guardians

After arriving in Cardiff Bay, Keith explained to the group that we were there to view a series of exhibitions on display in various venues around Cardiff Bay. The first venue visited was Craft in the Bay, the group were given the task of finding an item on display that they liked and also one that they disliked, having a reason to back up their statement. Everyone set off to view the craft display and the exhibition space whilst sketching and taking notes on the work on display. The exhibition of the time was titled Heat Exchange II. Gathering outside Craft in the Bay, a group discussion was held to talk about the work on display, any likes or dislikes and also the reasoning behind it.

The next destination was Wales Millennium Centre. The group got to view Clementine Schneidermann’s ‘I Called Her Lisa-Marie’ photographic exhibit which was part of the Cardiff International Festival of Photography- Diffusion. The group viewed ‘Graduate 2015’ where by some of the best artwork, across a range of mediums is displayed, created by Wales-based art graduates. This enabled the group, who are currently studying in the higher end of secondary school, to see the outcome of a variety of art forms.

A short walk led us to the Norwegian Church Art Centre to see Ken Griffiths’ ‘Patagonia’ series or photographs, also taking part in Cardiff International Festival of Photography- Diffusion. Keith ended the trip by talking about the importance of being enthusiastic about all forms of creativity, and how there are many different approaches to art as shown by the exhibitions visited throughout the trip. Keith urged everyone to continue to talk about art by finding something that they liked and disliked and to elaborate on those points and reasons, not being ashamed of how they feel.
